PLANET vs. PLASTICS

April 22nd marks the world’s 54th Earth Day.

Observed on 22 March, International Mother Earth Day was established in 2009, by the United Nations General Assembly under Resolution A/RES/63/278. The Resolution was introduced by The Plurinational State of Bolivia and endorsed by over 50 member states. Many important environmental events have happened on Earth Day since 1970, including the recent signing of the Paris Agreement, as Earth Day continues to be a momentous and unifying day each and every year. We invite you on April 22nd to celebrate the active progress to Restore Our Earth.

THE FOUR ELEMENTS

Earth is the composition of the surface of the earth, the soil and other minerals present in the soil. Whether the land is appropriate to live in that particular place depends on the composition of the surface of Earth. We must take care that the soil suits our habitat. Before starting the construction the size, shape, type of land, etc. are considered, and it is auspicious to do the Bhoomi Pujan.

Water is essential not only for the creatures, plants, and trees but also for the construction of the buildings. Shape and size of the building are designed at a place according to the availability of water and the relation with the land. Taking care of water means that the building is stable and safe even during heavy rains and at the time of the flood.

Air is a mixture of gases like oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. We can feel and hear the presence of air, but we cannot see it. Air is the most important element for all the living beings. While constructing a building, we must take care that the building has a sufficient supply of air for healthy and comfortable living. From which direction the air should enter the house is also a significant factor to be considered.

Space, The never ending region of the universe in which all the heavenly bodies exist is called space. It is the most widely spread over all the five basic elements of nature. It is preferred to construct a house in such a way that the Invisible forces of nature and the energies generated by them are fully utilized and their harmful effects can also be avoided

Fire circulates energy in the form of light and heat. we all know, the sun is the chief source of heat and light. The rotation and revolution of the earth cause day and night and Changing of seasons. The construction of the house is significantly affected by light and heat i.e.fire.So, you must take care that the building has a constant supply of light and it is completely safe from the fire also.

About the Day

Earth Day 1970–2022: What’s Changed?

The first Earth Day was in 1970. What’s changed since? Our population has doubled. We’re emitting 2.6 times more CO2. Sea levels have risen 12 centimeters. But the world has also changed for the better. See how our actions since 1970 have added up.

What We Do

Let’s remind more than ever, that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Let’s promote harmony with nature and the Earth. Join the global movement to restore our world!

The United Nations celebrates this observance through the Harmony with Nature initiative, a platform for global sustainable development that celebrates annually an interactive dialogue on International Mother Earth Day. Topics include methods for promoting a holistic approach to harmony with nature, and an exchange of national experiences regarding criteria and indicators to measure sustainable development in harmony with nature.

Oceans filling with plastic and turning more acidicExtreme heat, wildfires and floods, as well as a record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season, have affected millions of people.  Now we face COVID-19, a worldwide health pandemic link to the health of our ecosystem.

Climate change, man-made changes to nature as well as crimes that disrupt biodiversity, such as deforestation, land-use change, intensified agriculture and livestock production or the growing illegal wildlife trade, can increase contact and the transmission of infectious diseases from animals to humans (zoonotic diseases) like COVID-19. From one new infection disease that emerges in humans every 4 months, 75% of these emerging diseases come from animals, according to UN Environment. This shows the close relationships between human, animal and environmental health.

Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet – and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which will officially launch with World Environment Day 2021 (5 June), will help us stop, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems on every continent and every ocean. But we will only succeed if everyone plays a part.

PAST OBSERVANCES

How to adopt the “One Health approach” to create a more sustainable planet?

Understanding the connections between human health, animals and ecosystems is needed to create a world where humans, animals and the environment thrive together, ensuring a healthier, more sustainable planet for generations to come, say experts. Doreen Robinson, the Head of Biodiversity and Land at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), says that One Health Day,…

It is easy to get discouraged by the state of the planet.

Humanity is breaking all the wrong records on global warming. Fragile ecosystems face enormous pressure. More than 1 million plants, animals and other living things are at risk of being wiped out. Dirty air and chemical pollution threaten our land, ocean and health.  But International Mother Earth Day, on 22 April, is a reminder that there is a lot we…
